Description

A rich and moist chocolate cake perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two round 9-inch cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, sugar, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix melted butter and sugar until creamy. Beat in eggs one at a time. Stir in buttermilk and vanilla.
  4. Gradually fold dry ingredients into wet mixture until combined. Optionally add chocolate chips.
  5. Divide batter between pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely. Frost as desired.
