- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/3 cup black cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon black gel food coloring
- 8 oz cream cheese
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 2 cups powdered sugar
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake pan with liners.
- In a large bowl, sift together flour, sugar, black cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together buttermilk, oil, egg, vinegar, vanilla extract, and black food coloring.
- Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry, stirring just until combined. Do not overmix.
- Divide batter evenly among cupcake liners, filling each about 2/3 full.
- Bake for 18–20 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let cupcakes cool completely before frosting.
- Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth, then add powdered sugar gradually and beat until fluffy.
- Frost cupcakes and top with black sprinkles or edible glitter if desired.
Notes
- Store cupcakes in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
- For a richer flavor, allow cupcakes to cool in the refrigerator before frosting.
