- 1/2 cup butter
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1 1/2 cups freshly grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- Pinch of nutmeg (optional)
Instructions
- Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. If using garlic, sauté it in the butter for about 1 minute until fragrant.
- Slowly pour in the heavy cream, whisking to combine. Let it simmer gently for 5–6 minutes, stirring occasionally. Do not boil.
- Reduce the heat to low and add the Parmesan cheese in small handfuls, stirring constantly until melted and smooth.
- Season with salt, black pepper, and nutmeg if using. Simmer for another 1–2 minutes, then remove from heat.
- Toss with pasta or serve immediately over your favorite dish.
Notes
- This sauce can be made ahead of time and reheated before serving.
- Feel free to add cooked chicken or vegetables for a complete dish.
